Does Gundy have THAT much trouble keeping his pokes in line?

September 2, 2009

The AP reported that Mike Gundy doesn’t know if he wants his guys to shake hands with the Georgia players before the game Saturday. According to Gundy, he’s afraid it might result in a brawl.

Let me get this straight: Gundy doesn’t trust his football players to make a simple show of sportsmanship without getting into a fight? Pardon my ignorance, but I just don’t get it. This isn’t Georgia-Florida, nor is it Texas-Oklahoma. What possible bitterness could there be between UGA and OSU that would induce a brawl over shaking hands? I don’t have a crystal ball, but something tells me that OUR guys would have zero problems with shaking hands with the other team pre-game. I guess the Cowboys aren’t as well versed in being… oh I don’t know… civilized human beings.

This story printed today, following two other incidents in the past week (CB Parrish Cox was arrested, TE Jamal Mosley left the team) would logically lead one to conclude that Gundy is having trouble controlling his team. I mean, why else would you be afraid that you couldn’t shake hands because your team would start a fight?

What Gundy may not realize is that there’s going to be a fight either way. Except the fight we’re going to start goes 4 rounds, 15 minutes each, and we plan on getting a knock out. See though, the difference is, that’s football. What Gundy is worried about is straight up thuggery.

Yeah, that was kinda what I was thinking. This should be a good out of region contest between two respectable programs. All I can guess is that OSU really hasn’t been involved in a OOC game with this much hype in a long, long time. Maybe he’s concerned his kids will be overwhelmed by the hype and over the top emotionally, I don’t know. I know this game is getting a ton of pub in and around Stillwater. The SI Cover / stadium expansion / SEC team coming…all adds up to the players buying into the hype. Let’s only hope so.

    GO DAWGS!!!
